Libraries

The fundamental business of libraries, despite the technological, demographic and societal shifts which undoubtedly will continue to be the satisfaction of the information, education and recreation needs of the citizens of Westchester County. There are many tiers of library and information service in Westchester County. Each will play its vital role to its constituents. The public libraries, the only group chartered to meet the needs of all of the community the academic libraries, whose responsibility is to meet the needs of their students and faculty the school libraries, whose responsibility is to support and supplement the curricular needs of their students and teachers and the corporate, medical and other special libraries which support the research and information needs of their specialized users, all work to provide a comprehensive, thorough and successful level of library and information service which meets the diverse needs of the citizens of Westchester County.

The means by which these various library groups will deliver their service will be substantively altered by technological change, and the specific services to be offered always will be subject to the shifting needs of their constituencies. It is in these areas that defining library will be problematic and conjectural. People will continue to depend upon libraries for meeting their information, education and recreation needs, but what the specific needs will be and how they will be met will vary at least somewhat from the kinds of library service.

Interior designing

Designing is the blend of artistic talents and creativity. Design encompasses a number of different fields. It can be mainly divided into four ie Fashion designing, Product designing, Graphic designing. Fashion designing deals with clothing and textiles, product designing with designing the products and graphic designing deals with designing for websites, movies, logos, signage, etc. Interior designing is the arrangement of living space ie organizing, managing and planning of the interiors of rooms at homes, offices, retail shops, hotels, airports, exhibition halls, conference centers, theatres, TV and film studios and commercial establishments etc. The objective of designing space is to achieve functionality and to create the right kind of atmosphere for the right budget. Interior designing as a specialisation became popular only in the last few years.
Earlier architects would do all the design work, both exteriors and interiors themselves. Of late people have become more conscious of the design, layout and placement of their interiors, for offices, factories as well as residences. This has opened the door for a large number of professional. Most interior designers specialise in a particular area. For example, some may concentrate on business design, while others focus on residential design and landscape designing.

Crafts

Indian crafts are known throughout the world for their artistic work and grandeur. The vast cultural tradition and ethnic diversity, has enabled a variety of crafts with different materials, motifs and techniques to flourish in this land. The first references to Indian handicrafts can be found from the Indus Valley Civilization. This civilization is well versed in the craft of bead making, ceramics, etc. The Mughal era and the Gupta period were also the golden period in the history of Indian craft.
Works on woodwork, Pottery, hand looms, terracotta, paintings, beadwork, jewellery and embroidery etc have survived through centuries with fewer changes since it remained integrated with the everyday existence of the locals. The materials that are used may have changed over the years with the advent of modernity, but their technique of production have not changed much.
Crafts not only cater to the day to day needs of the people but are also used for decorative and religious ceremonies. Thousands of craftsmen makes crafts from nature clay, plants, trees and animals etc. Articles of daily use like chairs, bags, cushions, hats, purses, sofas etc are made from these natural sources. Increasing use is made of recycled materials like wire, plastic and tin.
In India, every state has its own unique culture, their own designs, colours, materials in use and individual shapes and patterns which is manifested in the handicrafts of that particular region. For instance, Kashmir is known for its Pashmina wool shawls as well as carpets, silverware, ivory works etc, Assam and West Bengal for their delicate Sholapith and Shital Patti work Karnataka for its rosewood carving, sandalwood crafts and the engraved and enameled meenakari brassware found in Rajasthan, silk materials from Varanasi and Kanchipuram, colourful embroidery, mirror work, quilting and fabric painting from Gujarat etc are some of the unique crafts from the different states. Certain other regions are famous for crystals and semi precious stones. In India, Craft making and dealing is a major occupation today with around twenty three million people engaged in the field.

Coffee

Our coffee mugs are purchased directly from the breweries for home use or breweriana beer collectors and are new Coffee mugs in excellent condition. We package the Coffee mug in bubble wrap to insure their safe arrival. Coffee was first discovered in Eastern Africa in an area we know today as Ethiopia. A popular legend refers to a goat herder by the name of Kaldi, who observed his goats acting unusually frisky after eating berries from a bush. Curious about this phenomena, Kaldi tried eating the coffee berries himself. He found that these berries gave him a renewed energy. The news of this energy laden fruit quickly spread throughout the region. Monks hearing about this amazing fruit, dried the coffe berries so that they could be transported to distant monasteries. They reconstituted these coffee berries in water, ate the fruit, and drank the liquid to provide stimulation for a more awakened time for prayer. In Turkey the coffee beans were roasted for the first time over open fires. The roasted coffee beans were crushed, and then boiled in water, creating a crude version of the beverage we enjoy today.

Irish breweries history

last day of December a determined young man named Arthur Guinness rode through the gate of an old, dilapidated ill equipped brewery sited on a small strip of land on Dublins Jamess Street. He had just signed a lease on the property. His friends shook their heads in disbelief. For ten years, Mark Rainsfords Ale Brewery had been on the Market and nobody had shown any interest in it. The Street was already festooned with similar small breweries, all attracted to this spot by a good supply of water.
Throughout the city of Dublin there were about breweries at that time, all, it must be assumed, small. Mr. Guinness newly aquired brewery was no more than average. But Arthur was about to change all of that. He was thirty four years old. At that time, beer was almost unknown in rural Ireland where whiskey, gin and poteen were the alcoholic drinks most readily available. In spite of this and the poor quality of beer avaliable in larger centers link Dublin, it was recognised, paradoxically, that brewing although constantly under threat from imports was probably the most prosperous of the very few industries in Ireland at that time.
In addition to ales, Arthur Guinness brewed a beer relatively new to Ireland that contained roasted barley which gave it a characteristically dark colour. This brew became known as porter so named because of its popularity with the porters and stevedores of Covent Garden and Billingsgate in London. Porter had been developed in London some years earlier and was imported into Dublin to the detriment of local brews. Arthur Guinness finally had to choose between porter or the traditional Dublin ales.
Deciding to tackle the English brewers at their own game, Arthur tried his hand at porter. He brewed the deep, rich beverage so well that he eventually ousted all imports from the Irish market, captured a share of the English trade and revolutionised the brewing industry. The word Stout was added in the early as an adjective, qualifying the noun porter. An extra stout porter was a stronger and more full bodied variety. Stout evolved as a noun in its own right, as did the family name of Guinness. Guinness Stout was available abroad, and Guinness St. Jamess Gate Brewery was the largest in Ireland. the annual production of Guinness brewed had surpassed one million barrels a year and by St. Jamess Gate was the world's largest brewery.
